"The care and treatment received was beyond compare"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

Attended hairmyres emergency department with my elderly father who was unwell after a fall with confusion and tremmours. He was admitted to hospital from the emergency department.

The care and treatment received was beyond compare not just to him but to myself as well they staff could see I was struggling and upset and took time to speak with me and offer me a cup of tea.

The staff took time to speak with me and treated my dad with dignity and respect despite his confusion they spoke to him even though I had to answer for him. That small act made me feel that he was being treated like human not a condition.

I would like to say thank you to Heather the medic who looked after my dad and took time to explain to me what was going on and also to the nurses Kerry, Emma and the student nurse Gordon for making me and dad comfortable and well looked after.

Dear Quill67

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on the care that your father received after he fell. What a worrying time for you and of course your father.

Staff will be pleased that you felt they treated your father with dignity and took time to speak to him and explain what was going on. Staff will appreciate you taking time to share details of how their actions made a difference to you and your father.

Your kind words will be shared with Heather, Kerry, Emma and Gordon as well as the wider team. Thank you again.

I hope that your father is more settled and that you are looking after yourself too. An emergency situation is very traumatic and when a loved one is confused it can increase the distress of an already complex situation.

This is why feedback like yours is so important so that we can understand what we are doing well and of course what we can do better.

Kind regards to you both

Lise
