What I liked
My son was born at the Pru in march 2008 and we recieved very good care starting with the midvives in delivery and excellent care from the midwives in the maternity ward.
My son was admitted on 25th april with suspected Bronchiolitis and I couldnt have faulted the nursing team in the children's ward , they were outstanding! In particular a nurse who was working the night shift when we were admitted and looked after us both nights of our stay.
She was professional, caring and understood our needs before we realised what they were. She was excellent with our son and was def had a way with children.
I was so pleased to see her back on the saturday night and slept soundly knowing she was looking after my son.
I dont think nursing staff are appreciated or praised enough, they do a fantastic job in most cases and we all need to stand up and shout from the rooftops how proud we are of them.
What could be improved
Our service in children's accident and emergency was good but not excellent.
After having a chest x ray the first two doctors didnt seem to know what was wrong and were reluctant to answer any questions, we were left waiting for an hour not knowing what was wrong and why he was being admitted untill a third doctor came, leaving us very worried and very emotional. The waiting area for the children's A and E is very small and my son was in very close proximity with some very sick children coughing all over him, throwing tantrums and almost hitting him and parents who were unwilling to move their bags from one of the five seats to allow me to sit down with him in my arms..(he is only 5 weeks old). this just made an awful situation more unbearable.
