"Rude staff"

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary

Anything else?

I would like to be able to ask a staff member a question without having my head bit off or without attitude. Surely as well as qualifications you need to be slightly caring to be a nurse? I would never dare speak to anyone the way we have been spoken to. My dad has only been in for 3 days and already I have a bad opinion. Everyone says what a good job you do but maybe just a simple yes or no to a question is enough without huffing, rolling your eyes or giving me a lecture. I'm already extremely upset about my dad, and do not need this kind of treatment.

Please accept my apologies for this and thank you for letting us know about it. We agree that patients, relatives and visitors should be treated with respect and courtesy and I am really sorry that this hasn't been your experience.

I forwarded your comment to the matron, manager and consultant in charge of this area and they are keen to make sure you have all the information you need and that any concerns you have are fully addressed. I know how worrying it can be when one of your parents is in hospital and you just want an answer to the questions you have, so we really do want to ensure you receive the information you need.

If you would like to speak to the matron, I wiuld be happy to arrange that. You can contact me on emer.scott@dbh.nhs.uk.
