I specified to my GP when he made a referral to see a consultant that I did not want to go to Scunthorpe hospital for any investigations or appointments as I had had a previous negative experience. However, when my appointment letter came through it was at Scunthorpe! As I didn't want it delayed I went along this week and my experience has changed my mind. The staff were very efficient, polite, caring and helpful. The consultant, again very polite, explained every detail of my condition and we agreed together a care plan for the future. This experience has changed my opinion of Scunthorpe hospital and I will certainly look at receiving further treatment there in the future if it were the only option. Putting this positive experience aside I still do believe it is unfair for some patients to travel to Scunthorpe as they may not have the transport, nor the funds, to keep doing this journey. So I would urge North Lincolnshire & Goole NHS Trust to put into their strategic plan and objective to provide more services that are close to where there is a high concentration of people.
