i received a letter from ear nose throat secretary for an appointment,not clearly stated,letter stated BAL L1 ent department. i had no idea what bal.,L1 meant,i am not familiar with the hospital,i panicked someone else had to tell me it meant balmoral building level 1,it is better if full words are used.

Thank you for taking time to post your comments to us. We fully appreciate that using these abbreviations on patient appointment letters can cause unnecessary confusion. At the moment, standard appointment letters are generated from a central electronic system but a project is already underway to improve this, ensuring abbreviations are limited and terminology is fully explained to patients.
