"outpatient trying to see my consultant"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Colorectal surgery

(as the patient),

Trying to get a check up on my ileostomy because I think I've damaged it.

First tried reception where a lovely lady said I need to speak to my consultant's secretary. She politely connected my call for me then to reach an answer machine telling me that they are on annual leave and gave me an alternative number. I tried that and the line went dead. So I started again at the reception and around again with the same result. In this day and age, surely they should cover such a vital role with a real person and not an answer phone? Or is it just me who thinks that?
