"Ward C31 - Poorly Managed"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus

Anything else?

I have always been an advocate of QMC which does a wonderful job teaching medical staff and providing care to thousands. But....

I was admited to C31 with suspected appendicitis on 24 April last week. I was in the ward for about 30 hours and was moved to 6 different beds during that time. I heard nursing staff arguing for about 40 minutes as to whether bays should be male or female. I waited for a scan for over 24 hours. I repeatedly asked staff to chase up when the scan would take place. They kept telling me they didnt have time to chase, but I feel that if they had worked more efficiently they would have easily been able to. One nurse would be asked a question by a patient and walk away from them as they answered so that the patient couldnt ask anything further. The nurse spent so much time telling people they'd come back to them that they never actually did anything.

When I was moved to my final bed in a sideroom there were several tablets on the floor - the room had clearly not been checked let alone cleaned from the previous occupant. At this point I was told that the scan wouldnt happen that day (I had been waiting 24 hours by now) so I discharged myself and returned for a scan as an outpatient.

I would like to point out that I am not a troublesome patient in any way - I did not once ring the buzzer of ask anything of the nurses. I feel sorry for the really poorly people in that ward who were just not looked after.

Is anyone in charge?
