"lack of information and concern"

About: King's College Hospital (Denmark Hill)

Anything else?

My mother is currently a patient on Dawson Ward. She has cancer, we still do not know the exact diagnosis a whole week after an exploratory procedure but was told over the phone that she has a 9-12 month prognosis to live. I am her daughter and have found that because my mother does not shout out for help on the ward she is not freely given any attention and very little care. I find the majority of the nursing staff unwilling or maybe just unable to discuss her illness or treatment and care with me and have never spoken to the same doctor twice. There is no continuity of the little information we as a family are given and we are leaving after each visit extremely worried that she is not being looked after at all well. I have had no contact from the consultant she is under despite leaving messages on his secretaries voice mail, I would have thought he may have had the decency to discuss the findings of the procedure he carried out on my mother with me. If my mother was not in the very weak state she is in now I would not hesitate in moving her from this place. Overall I am extremely unhappy with my mothers treatment at Kings and hope these comments are noted so that no other relatives or patients have to endure the heartbreak and stress we are all suffering as a result of the lack of information and the just don't care attitude of the staff.
