"Day surgery unit"
About: The Royal London Hospital The Royal London Hospital E1 1BB
I visited the DSU for he 2nd time in 4 weeks. The first time this time the treatment was delivered. However I observed several things that concerned me. As a patient having a procedure may have been nil by mouth from Midnight or 6am. At the patient drop off point there was a notice that said no food/dink in the area. On 2 occasions I have seen friends/ relatives of patients eating and drinking.and sitting among patients awaiting their procedu nil by mouth!
There were no nursing staff visible only to periodicaliy call the next patient. Reception staff seemed to turn a blind eye. Once you have seen a nurse and get a wrist band patients then return to patient drop off area
There were to many friends /relatives accumpanying patients leaving few seats for actual patients. It seemed several had a sleep and kept warm!
The admission procedure was incomplete for me twice now. No case notes,
I noticed one patient taking a large piercing out of her tongue and puting TED stockings on at the theatre door It wa so chaotic that patients were literaly queueing up outside theatres waiting for their procedure. Total chaos. This must add stress and anxiety to the patients recovery. Whoever thought up this system should join the queue. It reminds me off a car wash!
