"All the staff were a credit to NHS Shetland"

I just wanted to write in to tell you about the excellent service and treatment that I received recently (March 2013). at the Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick, Shetland.

I was in extreme pain due to toothache and had not been able to get help through normal channels. Both NHS 24 and my local dentist failed to help! The pain had lasted for 14 days and I hadn't been able to sleep for 3. The Casualty department at the Gilbert Bain Hospital was my last hope to get some relief from the extreme pain I was experiencing. I attended out of hours.

The team that looked after me in A and E are a credit to their profession! Shetland can be extremely proud of them.

In addition to being very professional, they were also very caring and went above and beyond anything I could have expected.

I would like to thank Sister Duffy for her care, humour and gentle nature. Especially for her excellent help as dental assistant, which was amazing.

Dr Duthie was also excellent. He took real care of me, found good solutions to the problems I was experiencing - and dealt with the pain! Again, he went above and beyond anything I could have expected. In my opinion, he is an outstanding professional with a genuine caring nature.

Thanks also to the dentist, Dr Roditakis, who came in to help at Midnight and coped with the unfamiliar surroundings at the hospital very professionally. The treatment he gave me was outstanding. Within minutes, I had no pain and a dental solution that will tide me over until I can get to see my own dentist. He was very gentle and took great care of me as a person and as a patient. He has renewed my faith in the dental profession! !

Thanks also to nurse Leslie, whose good humour and helping nature also helped me through the situation - and to Moira on reception who was very helpful and did a great job looking after the people who brought me in.

All the staff that night worked as an excellent team and were a credit to the NHS and to Shetland. I can't thank them enough!
