"A bad experience"
About: Cheltenham General Hospital Cheltenham General Hospital Cheltenham GL53 7AN
I was advised to go toA&E by NHS direct after getting a fish bone stuck in my throat. I arrived at 10pm and soon after had my details taken and was sent back into the waiting room. There were only a few people before me so I was quite hopeful that I would be seen soon. More people arrived and sat down. We had no idea why no one was going in to see a doctor and about 3 hours later I decided to go and ask the receptionist. She told me that they were very busy over the other side. I appreciate that if there are emergencies they need to be dealt with first but it would show respect to let the people waiting know what was going on. Having no idea what is happening when one is already feeling stressed is not good, it felt like I was locked in a room with uncomfortable seats and doors that never opened. Eventually after 5 hours and 2 more requests to know what was going on a registrar did call me in but he didn't appear to be really listening and after a very cursory examination said he could see nothing, so I went home. The next morning I went to see my GP as the pain was still bad and he was surprised that other procedures to examine my throat had not been carried out. He sent me to Gloucester A&E and there was a fish bone in my throat.
