"I needed an emergency prescription"

About: Harmoni / NHS 111 Hillingdon PCT / Emergency GP out of hours service

(as the patient),

I lost some of my diabetes medication during a security check at Naples airport, and arrived home, late at night, without any of my essential daily medication left. The next morning was a Saturday, so I called my GP Surgery and was immediately diverted to the 111 service. I spoke to a lady who took my details and decided that, because my medication was overdue, I should be put in touch with a Doctor. Ten minutes later a Doctor called me and agreed that I needed my medication. He then called my local pharmacy to confirm that they had the pills in stock, and authorise them to let me have them. Then he called me back to confirm. When I visited the pharmacy, half an hour later, I found he had not authorised them to issue enough pills to last until the Monday morning, but they were good enough to let me have the necessary number in spite of this.

Thank you for posting your experience with NHS111 and the Out of Hours service.

I am glad that you were assisted in your need to obtain medication despite not quite enough being issued!
