The care at both Charring Cross (mammograms, biopsies and surgery) and St Mary's (consultants) was outstanding. The nursing staff at Charring Cross in particular are reassuring, knowledgeable, and unbelievably kind and patient. Mammograms and biopsies (and I had a lot) are pretty horrific and these women made it bearable and even at some points humorous. The surgery day itself was slightly confusing as I didn't know the schedule, but at every stage one of these marvellous nurses was there to calmly answer questions and make sure everyone was OK. The surgeons were the consultants I had seen at St Mary's, which was hugely comforting as they knew my particular case history. The anaesthetists were equally reassuring and explained the procedure. There was a delay but only because the woman in front of me had an unexpected surgical issue, and that cannot be scheduled. I cannot stress how a very frightening and unpleasant experience was made doable by this capable and sensitive staff. A particular nurse should be given a medal for being so fantastic.
