"No visitors allowed in maternity unit"

About: Chelsea & Westminster Hospital

Anything else?

My Daughter had a baby at your Hospital recently, as her Mum i was treated very badly by recepyion staff and some midwives on the Maternity unit, no relatives were allowed to visit as a result my Daughter was depressed with nobody to talk to all day especially when she was in intensive care following a caesarian.

Response from Chelsea & Westminster Hospital

I am so sorry to hear about the unsatisfactory experiences for you and your daughter. Would it be possible for you to contact me on 020 3315 6727 or email: pal@chelwest.nhs.uk

I would like to help your daughter, however it would help us to know the date of the events so we can look into this further. This will be dealt with in strict confidence.

Many thanks

Sian Nelson

PALS Manager

Response from Sian Nelson, Membership and Engagement Manager, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

I have had further response from the Head of Midwifery who is able to help you further.

"The current restricted visiting arrangements for the hospital is widely publicised. The restrictions are due to an unprecedented, continued presence of Norovirus in the community and the restrictions are to protect our patients.

I am sorry that this has not been communicated in a polite and supportive way. As Head of Midwifery I will be addressing the attitude and behaviour of the reception staff in a team meeting. The staff endeavour to do their best and be as flexible as possible. The maternity service have open access policy of 24hrs for partners to support new mothers and will always try to act in the patients best interest if they are made aware.

If you would like to discuss this in detail, please do contact Sian Nelson, PALS manager who will happily organise a meeting or facilitate telephone communcation between us. 020 3315 8548

Best wishes

Vivien Bell
