"Impressive care but lapse of communiation"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a relative),

My Aunty has recently been in Blackpool Victoria Hospital on a couple of occasions for investigations into problems with her stomach. I have been in close contact with her as she lives on her own in sheltered accommodation so have had to speak to the wards several times. She tells me that overall she has been impressed with the care she has received, saying how busy the nurses are on wards with patients who have varying degrees of need. Despite this they do a really good job. She made particular mention that the food was good.

The only downside came when I was phoning the ward to find out what was happening following a scan and did not get through until early evening when I was told by the nurse in charge that she had been discharged home. I was a bit surprised but then phoned her at home later on in the evening and again in the morning getting increasing worried when I could get no answer to point when I got hold of warden who went into flat with neighbour. No sign of her - so I phoned up the hospital to be told she had not been discharged but transferred. Spoke to ward manager who explained that staff nurse I spoke to "can't have checked the book" and apologised.

The incident caused myself, my sister and the warden a lot of unnecessary worry. I can accept how busy people are but communication is really important. Thanks, though, for the good care.
