Anything else?
I've had a fairly complex and not well understood neurological condition for 12 years which relasped badly in feb 2012. Each relapse I've had has had different affects on my body and this time I was left unable to walk.
I had never received a great deal of beneficial help from the NHS before but because of the severity of the relapse I was referred to a doctor for a consultation. He was extremely understanding, thorough and immediately reffered me for a number of tests one of which being an MRI.
I thought I was going to be fine but didn't realise how tiny the MRI 'tunnel' in the scanner would seem and paniced. The staff in the imaging dept were fantastic, they pulled me straight back out of the 'tunnel', calmed me down and allowed me to keep the frame with a mirror attached on it over my face so I could see out of the end of the 'tunnel' whilst having my spinal images taken. They also spoke to me through the headphones the entire way through asking if I was ok and counting down each set of images.
Once the MRI results were looked at I was referred to the physio dept. for treatment. I really wasn't sure what to expect as not many people have heard of my condition and/or realise that physical strain can make it worse. I went, nervously, to my first consultation and wow!! Not only had the physio I saw read through all of my notes prior to seeing me but he had heard of the condition and had worked with people with the condition as well. I could have cried with relief!! I have been attending the physio dept. once a week for around 12 weeks now, I can already walk again and barely need my wheelchair anymore. The physio I initially saw plus the physio I see 2 out of every 3 weeks have both been fantastic, they are reassuring, know exactly what they are doing and are also down to earth which I find makes me feel a lot more comfortable. I cannot be more grateful for the help of every member of staff who has dealt with my case. John and Sally from the physio dept. you are my absolute heroes. Just a shame it took me 12 years to get such good treatment!!
"Amazing treatment for a complex condition!!"
