I was taken by ambulance at about 2pm last friday, the staff were very nice, but very very busy.
Bloods were taken and sats. I was sent for a chest and abdo xray
Then the wait.
After sitting in various rooms I was later taken to a ward near the A&E entrance.
The foul smell that greeted me was unbelievable, the shower unit was pumping liquid and fecal matter out onto the ward corridor.
I was put in a six bed unit with 4 men! The sink next to the unit i was in, started pumping out liquid and fecal matter which was heading toward my feet.
I refused point blank to undress or get into a bed as I had made up my mind that i would not stay in the hospital over night. The man opposite me kept exposing himself, and the man two beds along kept fouling himself.
I sat with coat on covering my face, a, because of the foul smell and, b, as i thought i was exposed to germs of varying kinds.
I felt sorry for the nursing staff as they were running around with towels trying to stem the flow escaping across the floors, at 11pm I informed the staff I was going home as I had not been seen by a doctor and was not prepared to sleep overnight in a room that stunk, or with four men. The doctor was called and he came immediately, after having been told in the afternoon that the doctor would see me in 15 to 20 mins. It turned out that i do have a gastric problem, the doctor agreed that i could go home and go back over the weekend for a scan.
I returned on the sunday morning with a full bladder as requested, for the scan, which was fine, but then i had to use the toilet as my bladder was very full, what I was greeted with was beyond words, the toilet stunk, the wash basin and taps were filthy and had not been cleaned for god knows how long, and the toilet was coated in urine and pooh.
There was also a plastic seat on the top of the toilet seat 0 (which was also filthy) which meant it was too high for me, how i managed to go without touching anything i don't know, but i did, then washed my hands, i turned the tap off with tissue, unlocked the door with tissue and opened the door with tissue and my foot, i think i would rather have used the gutter.
This is not a complaint about the staff, it is the filthy germ ridden conditions which cause me concern. Surely a hospital should not be like this, no wonder diseases are rife
