"Admitted 8th January 2013 Thomas Doherty"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

Anything else?

I collapsed at home with severe breathing problems caused by pnaumoniax and a low oxygen blood count. ( I was on cemotherapy for kidney and lung cancer) I was in a dreadful state ! My wife and daughter accompanied me to the hospital, and the receptionist kindly ran to assist with a wheelchair and I was taken screaming for help to get breath to a reception ward. The staff were superb, calm, knowledgable and you could see well trained and thanks to their swift actions got me relatively settled, even though I was still very unstable, and can only remember certain bits, of exactly what went on.

I was transfered to ward B28 where again the staff under extreme presssure attempted to get my temp down right through the night. ( I am eternaly grateful )

I had 3 blood transfusions

I was alway made aware by the doctors and nurses of what was happening, again reasuring me by keeping me informed.

From the cleaners, the girls who made the tea, to the trainies 1st year nurses, experienced nurses, physios, pharmacy, doctors etc, there is no way I could have been looked after by a better team, they were fabulous, and made my stay in Sunderland Royal more comfortable and helped my recovery. The ward was always spotless cleaning went on all the time, it could not be faulted. The experienced nurses had a brilliant morning and evening routine and the mixture of youth and experience in the ward worked brilliantly. The food and refreshment team again were very professional, although I didn t eat for the first 10 days of my stay, the were there encouraging me with protene drinks etc Everything that passed my lips was recorded by the staff again this was wonderful. When I began to eat the food and service was excellent

To sum up this was one of the most proffesional and well trained team, that I had the pleasure have ever been n ursed by, I was treated with respect, had privacy with disipline, and Sunderland Royal delivered to me the complete package.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone at Sunderlad Royal Hospital !!
