I got my medication on time during my stay at Royal Hallamshire Hospital towards the end of November, but the staff on Ward 1 at Royal Hallamshire seemed to understand very little about Parkinson's medication, but I explained they could lock away the bulk of my medication but allow me to load my pill-timer with the day's tablets. I kept my pill-timer with me, it even went down to the theatre with me. I was then able to self-medicate all day as I do at home.
There were no problems once I explained I had been managing my own medication for 32 years. They put my Rotigotine transdermal patches in the ward fridge and were prompt when fetching it to me when it was needed.
I believe some staff were apprehensive about my arrival having been informed that I would need to self-medicate. I hope I proved their fears were groundless.
