"A poor experience of maternity care"

About: Croydon University Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Hope Ward at 9am onwards for induction & not seen by a doctor till labour.

I was being kept on CTG but still the hospital staff failed to understand that by 7pm I was in the third stage of labour.

The CTG recordings showed regular contractions & baby’s heartbeat checks; but still observed no seriousness on the part of the hospital staff.

Had internal scan at 4pm and was told I was 4cm dilated but I was still asked to remain mobile & bear the contractions until they became more regular.

I had continuous urge to push every minute & was quite heavily bleeding (which in my Mother’s opinion was a great sign of labour). Still I was told by the hospital staff it could be that the urge of pushing could in fact be the urge to pass a stool! How insane & in fact she suggested me to mobilize even then.

Within half an hour or less at 19:40, I had delivered my daughter on the floor & there was not even a single member of staff to help. My baby landed on the floor and there were four members of my family who witnessed this event.

I could have never ever have imagined such poor service standards.
