"Neglect of basic care"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

What I liked

My mother (aged 83) is a patient at LRI. , where the ward staff is failing to provide basic care. She is left for entire days without washing, brushing her teeth and combing her hair. She is receiving no assistance with eating or drinking and her hearing aid, on which she relies, is routinely discarded and left out of her reach. This is neglect. It is undignified and unacceptable in the west in the twenty-first century. Certain family members are planning to make a formal complaint if the level of care does not improve significantly and permanently.

What could be improved

Absolutely everything - see above.

I’m really sorry to hear that you are not happy with the care that your mother has received. The best thing for you to do would be to speak to the matron on the ward. If you are not happy with this response you can ask for it to be escalated and speak to the divisional head of nursing. If you would like to submit a formal complaint please contact our Patient Information and Liaison Service on 08081 788337.
