What I liked
When looking for reviews about the maternity services at Darent Valley prior to my delivery date, it seemed that people are very quick to discuss the negative and are not so forthcoming with the positive. I therefore decided that it was crucial that I posted my thoughts.
I gave birth to my daughter on 5th December 2012 on Aspen ward and was lucky enough to have a water birth. It was a very calm and relaxing birth which was largely down to the professionalism of the midwives. They were great at putting me at ease from the moment we stepped through the door right through to the end. Unfortunately I had a few problems with my placenta and after my lovely calm birth I had to go to theatre to have it removed. I was very impressed again at how calm and relaxed the staff were which immediately eased my fears about going to theatre. The staff on delivery suite and in theatre were all very attentive and chatty during the small hours throughout my procedure! I ended up staying in on Aspen ward overnight and again all the staff were very attentive and a great support when it came to breastfeeding. They didn't seem to mind at all when I buzzed for help during the middle of the night.
I must say a huge thank you to the midwife who delivered my daughter with her student nurse. She was fantastic and I feel as though she made my birth experience so lovely. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Aspen ward/Delivery suite should I have another baby. Thank you all very much.
"A lovely birth experience that I won't forget for..."
