"Virtually impossible to get an appointment at Manor Park Surgery, Leeds"

About: Leeds PCT

(as the patient),

I've been trying to get an appointment at the surgery for a fortnight now. My symptoms are not an "absolute emergency" (their words) but I'd like to see a doctor sooner rather than later.

They have a system where 50% of appointments are given on the day, and 50% booked in advance. There are no advance appointments until 6 May (3 weeks away) and there are only appointments today for "absolute emergencies". The one appointment they could offer me next week was not suitable because I work.

I think this system is particularly difficult for people who work - am I supposed to not go to work every morning so that I can wait in a phone queue (0844 number) on the off chance that I might get an appointment?

Thank you for raising your concerns about the appointment system at Manor Park Surgery. The practice is sorry to hear about the problems you have experienced.

The practice has appointments which can be booked in advance and a doctor is also on-call each day, for emergencies. The doctor on-call will triage patients and advise whether the patient needs to be seen or whether they can wait for a routine appointment. The practice also has slots for telephone consultations.

The practice appreciates there are difficulties for patients who work and has tried a number of different appointment systems in the past. However, the current system does suit the majority of patients. The practice is also encouraging patients who are unable to keep their appointments to cancel them to enable these slots to be offered to other patients.

The practice appreciates your feedback and is always welcome to suggestions from patients.
