I recently underwent an elective cesarian section due to my son being breech and afterwards was a guest of Derriford's Transitional Care unit for 2 nights. The care I received was nothing less than exceptional.
The staff were all courteous and friendly and even though the ward at times was manically busy they still made time for any request I had. For example due to the surgery I could not pick my son up from the cot, so every time I needed to pick him up or put him down I had to call someone to lift him out or put him back for me. The staff also took time to show me how to change his nappy and helped me with breastfeeding.
One of the nights I got a hit of the baby blues, when a nurse arrived to give me medication and saw me in a bit of a state, she took my son for me to allow me to have a shower, change my clothes and just generally feel a bit human again. I could not be more grateful to all the staff on the ward for the levels of help and support they provided me. I know that if I ever had to have that procedure again then I would be in safe hands.
