What I liked
I am the daughter of a patient and unknown to staff I have a previous medical background.
I wanted to keep my Mother at home but that became difficult.
When I learned my Mother was to be admitted I feared for her given the media coverage of NHS problems, however, I was very relieved and pleasantly surprised with our experience of the wonderful QE Hospital Gateshead.
First impression was a spotlessly clean and fresh smelling hospital.
Everyone we met in the corridors from the postman to the cleaners, the porters, nurses and doctors made eye contact and had time to say hello with a smile.
After an emergency admission, my Mother was treated with respect and dignity, and kept warm and comfortable until admission to ward 14a.
On the ward it seemed like angels were waiting to wrap their wings around my Mother and nurse her.
All nursing care has been carried out with great respect, in a warm and comforting way.
All staff on the ward know my Mother by name and have quickly got to know all about her needs and her family. l trust that my Mother is getting very good care and relieved that the team is helping us so much, as we could not do this alone.
When I made known my Fathers distress at being separated from my Mother, he was made welcome and allowed free access to his wife coming to terms with a terminal illness.
When I asked for an update on my Mother's prognosis, a nurse and then a doctor made time to explain the illness, treatment and outlook in a very easy to understand and compassionate way, and have kept my parents up to date and involved in every decision.
My mother always tells me she has the best Doctors in the world.
My entire family believe that.
Thank you for giving us her much hope.
Thank you to every one involved.
