What I liked
Mum was in Westbourne for 4 weeks following a fall, and I was very pleased with the care she had. Unfortunately the ward contracted the sickness bug during her stay, but the standard of cleanliness was excellent and the staff did all they could to minimise the spread of the bug. Mum has a small appetite, but the kitchen staff tried to tempt her to eat by doing their best to provide tasty food. I was impressed that one nurse arranged for a jelly to be made to tempt Mum, as that was all she could face. As I live away, I was reassured to be given information in my daily phonecalls, and to be greeeted by friendly and well informed staff when I was able to visit.
What could be improved
When mum had the 'bug', she needed help to get to the bathroom during the night, but didn't make it in time. The night nurse cleaned her up, but left the soiled sheets for the day staff to change and Mum had to spend the rest of the night in unclean sheets. She has only just mentioned this, otherwise I would have had a word. I do know that the staff were very busy during that night, and maybe it was overlooked.
