I started having hip pain when pregnant with my last child but put it down to the size and weight on my pelvis. however 6 months after he was born and I was still getting pain which was gradually getting worse. My mother had the same hip pain for years and after scans and x-rays they discovered she had hip dysplasia, she had a hip replacement operation at the age of 49. I went for x-rays myself and unfortunately I have the same problem. The only thing is that I am only 35 and I know because of my age I will not be able to have a hip replacement. The problem I have is that I went to see a specialist in Coventry, who informed me he would be prepared to give me a resurfacing operation, which could preserve my own hip. Unfortunately I live in Leicester and the PCT have refused to fund my operation. If I lived in Coventry I understand that I could have had it done.
This seems so unfair to me. I have got 3 young children and my condition is starting to restrict so much of what I can do. I am a hairdresser but can't stand for longer than 20 mins, before I start getting quite bad pain in my hip and thigh, so I am physically unable to do the only job I am qualified to do. I am not entitled to disability as I am not quite disabled enough either.
Is there anything I can do about this at all? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
