The model for mental health in the UK seems to (rightly) acknowledge the most severe problems, as well as having improved services for mild/moderate problems via IAPT. However, because I have moderate and ongoing mental health issues including personality disorder elements, anxiety, insomnia but am currently in full time work, I feel there is no help there for me.
All I have been asked to do is pay for therapy myself. I don't think this would happen with a physical health problem. There was little explanation around this. Perhaps this is because of NHS cuts, or because I am seen as a problem case.
There was no recognition that the recommended therapy centre is far from home, still quite expensive and no particular therapy was recommended by the psychiatrist. I feel that to get proper mental health care I would need to be a lot more ill/ less functional which is not what I want.
I struggle through each day and am recently feeling more and more hopeless. I want to feel better not worse and I don't know where to turn.
