What I liked
Although we did not have the labour we had written about in our birth plan we felt informed and able to make decisions based on the options provided by the midwife and consultant team.
When we were concerned that our baby was 'back to back' during the pregnancy we were able to see a Consultant.
When the baby was overdue I appreciated the reflexology. It made me feel that we were trying everything we could.
We had a lovely calm day(after the epidural........) reading the papers whilst being monitored by one midwife until the shift change and then another lovely lady. We felt cared for throughout the whole experience and I think this was because of the continuity of care throughout. The one labour one midwife policy is definitely a good one.
We ended up having a c-section which would have been the last thing we wanted when we embarked on pregnancy but by the time we had gotten to that stage we knew that everyone had given all the other options a go. The midwives made us feel very positive about this final stage.
I loved the hospital food. When I read all the dietary requirements catered to it was mind boggling. I can safely say having been in labour for nearly two days the best road to recovery was meat and gravy of some variety with some lovely mashed spuds.
