I was obliged to contact the oncology ward at the Eastbourne District General Hospital to arrange collection of self administered medication.
The telephone was answered by a foreign person. After eleven minutes of attempting to communicate with them I asked if I might speak to someone with a better command of English.
The next day when I went to collect the medication I was taken to a side room by the person in charge and a biologics nurse who claimed I had been rude to her staff. I was then treated to a thirty minute lecture on 'political correctness', even being threatened with 'refusal of treatment'. When I asked for the prescribed medication it was refused until I had listened to this tirade.
Finally I got up to leave saying I will go without the medication and make a formal complaint. I made the formal complaint but I think the matter was 'swept under the carpet' by the management. I have subsequently found out that my medical records contain libelous documents branding me a violent racist which will follow me to any hospital in the country.
I am an OAP. I hate to think what will happen if I end up in a care home staffed by foreign persons. (Ref. Filipino male sentenced to 18 months for assaulting care home residents.)
I am currently trying to get these spurious, unfounded, defamatory items removed from my medical records. Although I have already been told that once documents are IN your records, they cannot be removed.
Suggest that all patients of the EDGH pay the £10 and demand to go through your medical records under the Freedom of Information Act.
I suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, inflamed prostate and angina. I now feel completely intimidated about attending that hospital because I am certainly not racist.
It is now a case of if they (the documents) don't come out, I am not going in. So I am effectively precluded from using the NHS. Even though at 67 I am still a working taxpayer.
"Branded a racist for asking to speak English!"
