"Excellent, caring staff."

About: Airedale General Hospital

What I liked

I took my mother, age 87, who is very bad on her feet, to have cataract surgery at Airedale. We would like to say how well she was treated by all the staff there, both doctors, nurses and ancillary staff. The organisation was top class. We were told to have her there for 12.30pm, and when we arrived around 12.15pm, the nurses were ready for her and took immediate control, welcoming us to the Dales Suite and explaining clearly what would happen and that we had to return at 2.45pm to pick my mother up. Upon arrival back at that time, my mother was waiting, having had a cup of tea and being well looked after. A wheelchair was arranged to take her back to the entrance. She could not have been treated any better.

What could be improved

The only downside of the day was that I had dropped my mother and wife off at the West Entrance, as that seemed to be the nearest entrance. Unfortunately, it turned out that there was no working lift there. Luckily a member of staff spotted my wife and mother struggling to walk and find a lift, and arranged for a wheelchair to take her to the Dales Suite. I was very surprised that there was no working lift at the West Entrance when there is the large car park there. It would have been helpful if the appointment letter had contained a map showing how to get to the Dales Suite, pointing out that this was on level 2 and showing where the available lifts were.
