"Great medical experience but lack of other basic..."

About: Southampton General Hospital

What I liked

I was happy with my cancer surgery in that removed a tumor from my colon. The medical team were very professional as expected. The nursing staff were good but with staff cuts made it difficult to get minor items such as water to drink or a urine bottle within an hour.

What could be improved

More nurses.

Anything else?

The menu for meals looked like a first class menu, but the actual food was cheap and nasty. Mostly tasteless.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback to us. We note your positive comments about the staff and the staffing and apologise that you care was not received in a timely way. The Trust introduced the Medirest "Steamplicity" plated meal system in 2009. The system was chosen because the menu choice offers far more patient food choice compared to other patient catering systems and is unique in that the meals are individually steam cooked at ward level (not re-heated) and then delivered to the patient within a matter of minutes to maximise taste, freshness and nutritional value. We will pass on the comments with regards to presentation and food ingredient quality being found to be poor to our Steamplicity centre as I know they appreciate patient feedback like this so that appropriate improvements can be made.
