"Me and POV or groin warts to be exact."

About: Torbay Care Trust

(as the patient),

One day last June 2011, I noticed three small bumps inside my right groin, the bit you never seem to dry perfectly after a bath.

Not knowing what it was, I made an appointment with my local GP.

He said it was a virus called POV, and prescibed some ointment. Daily use did not cure the problem, and I went back to the Doctors, and saw a different Doctor, who confirmed yes POV, but the infection has spread a little...more bumps!

After a few more weeks of no clearance from the cream, I saw another Doctor, who specialises in skin problems, and he said he could freeze the virus using liquid nitrogen.

Great I thought, a solution is at hand. However, In the six months I waited to get the appointment through to visit the once a month surgery, which included me chasing it up with the Doctors secretary, I went onto the net to look up POV, and found it can be a STD...ummm, having not had my "porriage Oats" for 3 years, I though that's interesting then!!?? There was also a walk in clinic advertised on the site, so one morning I went down and walked in. After a basic sign in, 15 minutes later, I was talking to a specialist doctor. Yes you have a POV probably caused by the fact you are a diabetic, with a very low immune system caused by your diabeties.

Why didn't my Doctor tell me that? Anyway I get a freeze treatment there and then.

I went again several times to the walk in, with some small success.

Suprise, I have now received an invitation to attend one of the once a month Doctors clinics, at my local GP surgery ...only taken 6 months!

Ok another freeze job and some more questions from me?, It's Christmas now!

I suppose the old Turkey would have appreciated a cool freeze rather than a hot oven!?

Another couple of visits to the walk in Feb 2012, with limited success I might add, with the virus spreading now to the insides of my legs!...UUUMMMM! not good,

so I wasted £20 on some miricle cure ointment from America "Terrasil",...... could have wasted it on the lottery, or just burnt my £20 quid in the back garden, I'm feeling rather down and fed up now, so I went and bought some Red Wine, after being 6 months dry!!!......Never mind, at least the wine worked, and "got me to where I wanted to go"!!!! Funny it did'nt fix the virus warts though!

Fired up with the red stuff still in my veins, my blood sugars going sky high, I go and "Demand to see a Doctor" at my local surgery. Luckly I'm seen by one of the newer doctors, a lovely lady one to boot. A Doctor is a Doctor..............ok?

She agree's the rash is getting bad, and arranges me to see another skin specialist that same day at the other surgery in the afternoon..................great getting some action now. After seeing him, he says I should see a Dermatologist Specialist, leave it to me I will arrange it. Again, great action time, the NHS works!!!!.........err NO!

Today, I received my letter from the NHS appointments people, complete with tel no and ref no and password, so I duly rang through, and spoke to the young man. I was then told I would have to wait for a Care trust Doctor to check my notes.

Dont forget, I have just been referred by two Doctors to see a Dermatoligist.

The young man phones me back about 3 hours later, to tell me the GP Support Doctor at Primary Care Trust, does not think I need to be seen!

Ever seen an Atlas 5 rocket go????.....Well, I beat it to 50,000ft!!!

So we have a doctor who has not seen me, and after being refered by two who have, deciding I am insignificant.

Where are my human rights I say? I am being denied treatment.

After a swift nip down to my local surgery to speak to one of my local GP's, I understand the term is "RATIONING". Having paid my due's into the system for 44 years, I am a little bit more than "*issed off"! More red wine tonight.

I will be sending my letters of complaint to the particular PCT, and that against the Doctor who has taken that decision.

Care in the Community.......err NO. There are some real fundermental things going wrong in our health service today, I hear a lot of reterick from the suits in London, but I have been let down.

My jolly writings can not hide my utter discust and seething right now, that I feel I have been less treated than a vet would do for my cat.

OK it is my Human Right, to receive the medical attention I require, rather than having to now spend a lot of time creating waves and sabre rattling tactics.

At least I got that lot off my chest......pity about the warts.

Anyone know of any local "Witches" with a black cat and Toad!?

Make sure the patient and carer voice is part of the commissioning process.

Dear nala,

I’m sorry you have had a difficult experience with different information and opinions. I appreciate you said you intend to send a complaint but in the meantime, if we can help in any way to identify the cause of the problem here and liaise with the doctors concerned or the booking system to resolve it, we would like to do so.

In order for us to be able to address this for you, we will need your permission, and information about you so we can pin point exactly where the problem has been. If you would like this to happen, please could you contact our Dilys at our Patient Advice and Liaison Service who is aware of your opinion posted above. Dilys can be contacted on 01626 357035 or pals.nhsdevon@nhs.net .

Once again, I am sorry you have had such a frustrating experience.

Yours sincerely,

Jo Curtis
