"Doctors and nursing staff were excellent, but cleaning and kitchen staff were a worry"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital

(as the patient),

I was a patient in Conservators ward, room DS5. Whilst I was there, I was not aware of the room being cleaned once, the floors were not washed and as far as I'm aware the toilet not touched or paper replaced, until I was forced to complain. I did not see any cleaning staff and my impression of the kitchen staff was appalling.

I feel that I was often forgotten, and I always had to ask for water which took along time to arrive.

There did not seem to be any management or coordination between the two groups. It was also a bit frightening to over hear one staff nurse tell another that Diabetic patients were being given the wrong food!

I could find no fault with the Doctors or the nursing staff, which were really excellent. I understand the hospital has a history of MRSA and I am rather glad I escaped. I think you have a lot to sort out.

Response from Martine Price, Head of Patient Experience, Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust

Thank you for your feedback, I am sorry you had such a poor experience and were concerned about the cleanliness of the ward. This feedback has been given to the ward sister and the cleaning staff. Standards of cleaning are taken very seriously and are frequently checked.

I would like to reassure you that our hospital has for a number of years had an excellent track record for infection control and has exceeded any targets set to reduce infection.

Your feedback is important thank you taking the time
