"Very disappointed in the standard of care..."

About: Lister Hospital

What I liked

The doctor who initially dealt with my son was very courteous and professional. He effectively described the injury assessment process and possible outcomes.

Following the CT Scan, which he arranged, he described the extent of the injury and confirmed that

my son would be referred to a surgical team as his injury was potentially life threatening.

What could be improved

Following this discussion my son was asked to wait in a waiting room in A&E where he stayed for the next 8 hours without food or drink (except that which we purchased) in severe pain without medication.

When we eventually had a discussion with a surgical registrar it took place in the waiting room with other patients present. There was no confidentiality. Although the ward admission letter indicated admission at 13.40 he did not actually get into a bed on the ward until 20.15 hrs.

On the 5th April he was advised that he would be transferred to a surgical ward as he may require urgent surgical intervention. Within 1 hour he was advised that his condition was 'stable' and could be discharged ! The discharge letter referenced that ' he rest at home accompanied by an adult '

The follow upo process for a CT scan on the 10th April was a complete farce and we waited for 4 hours for a discussion with a junior doctor in the imaging department for less than 2 minutes

Anything else?

The initial treatment via A&E was very good. After this point things deteriorated rapidly.

We are still waiting for a follow up out patient appointment for my son's serious injury.

This is not acceptable
