About: Grantham & District Hospital

What I liked

My wife entered Grantham Hosp on Tues’ 11 Oct at 12 noon for an operation on her right leg (varicose veins). She had been anxious, not about the operation, but about the anaesthetic, and what could happen if it went wrong.

Both the surgeon and anaesthetist visited and discussed what was going to happen. They were both excellent in the way they spoke to my wife. Their ‘bedside manner’ was very good.

Also, all of the nurses were excellent. There is no complaint about any of them.

What could be improved

The only minor point would be that when an operation has been completed, then a little more communication with who ever has accommpanied the patient, would help to prevent any frustration as to not knowing what is going on.

Response from Jennie Negus, Deputy Director of Patient Services, United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust

Thank you very much for taking the time to tell us about your wife's recent time with us at Grantham Hospital; I am glad the operation went well, and that staff managed to ease your wife's worries. In terms of information to partners attending with patients I can appreciate your point as it can be worrying not knowing. In most cases relatives or a close friend accompany patients for surgery and I am sure you can appreciate as this can be a lot of people needing to be updated by the nursing staff who are also looking after the patients - however I am sure we can find a way of managing this and I will discuss with the nursing teams. Thank you again.
