About: Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Inpatient mental health care

(as a service user),

whilst i was a patient at the day ward at the peter hodgkinson centre i really enjoyed it! staff are very patient especially with the more "difficult" cases who do take up alot of the staffs time. i really enjoyed the service user cafe there and lee who runs it does a fantastic job! he always has time to sit and talk to you and is very reassuring. the patients he works with reall depend on him and look up to him. brilliant idea, there shouold be one of these set up in every unit.

Response from Caroline Hainsworth, Service Liaison Manager, Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

Thank you so much for your very positive feedback about Pete’s Place (community café) at the Peter Hodgkinson Centre (PHC).

Pete’s Place have recently achieved nationally recognised qualifications in food handling and preparation. Pete’s Place works as a training community café within the heart of PHC. It provides a real life working environment to service users and volunteers by helping them improve their skills towards independent living. Earlier this year some of the ‘trainee’ caterers studied for basic food hygiene qualifications.

Pete’s Place is open to everyone who lives, works or visits PHC. It is run by service users and volunteers and supported by the local occupational therapy team. The café team prepare filled sandwiches and rolls, jacket potatoes, cakes, which they serve to customers, along with other confectionary and refreshments. The café promotes healthy eating and uses local suppliers where possible, including vegetables from the PHC garden.

You can read about other service user’s positive experience of Pete’s Café online in our Foundation Trust members magazine (issue 14): http://bettertogether.distracts.co.uk/issue14/.
