"Absolutely excellent"

About: Colchester General Hospital

What I liked

This is an excellent hospital with fantastic doctors, midwives and maternity care assistants. This is how a hospital should be run.

I had a difficult pregnancy due to my placenta being diagnosed with a rare chromosome condition , and having gone to see a consultant in Broomfield (Chelmsford), I was not at all satisfied with the proposition of how they intended to check on my pregnancy in the last crucial ten weeks where the baby was at risk of stopping growing.I had a medical need to have an elective c section, and I was refused the opportunity at Broomfield for no apparent reason. I changed hospitals and saw an amazing consultant, who just supported me through the last fifteen weeks with the aid of the excellent scanning team.

I was kept informed at all times, I rarely had to wait any length of time for my appointments, and I was treated with respect by all staff. When the c- section date came round, everything went smoothely, and the aftercare service by the midwives was second to none. I was given appropriate pain relief and basically the very best service by all staff involved in the aftercare service. My consultant had also arranged for a paediatrician to be on hand at the birth, and to check the baby up after the birth the next day. I couldn't fault the care I got here at all. My recommendation would be to avoid Broomfield Hospital and go to Colchester if you live in the area.

What could be improved

Nothing at all.
