"Shocked, disgusted, and quite frankly amazed at..."

About: University College Hospital

What I liked

The reception staff were friendly and helpful.

What could be improved

The doctor I saw was rude and agressive to the point of being abusive. As a visiting tourist from Australia who had been given what was deemed to be correct advice about what our options were for seeing a doctor on a Sunday in London, imagine my surprise at being scolded repeatedly for "wasting" the time and resources of the NHS, enhanced by the nothing more than perfunctory review of my symptoms, a complete lack of communication about what the diagnosis might be until pressed, and then scorn when i dared to ask for some further information required by our travel insurance provider. I thought the Australian public health system left a lot to be desired until i had the quite frankly disgusting treatment from this poor excuse for a health care professional. Thanks, you will forever be remembered as the rudest, nastiest doctor i have ever had the displeasure of meeting, but on the plus side, i now view the Aussie public system much more highly, so not all is lost.

Response from University College Hospital

I am sorry if you felt our doctor was rude and aggressive and thank you for your positive feedback about our reception staff. Although we do have a duty to ensure patients are educated about accessing appropriate NHS health services, it is important this is communicated professionally and patients should still be triaged/assessed appropriately. Please contact us with your details and we will be happy to investigate this further for you. PALS can be contacted Monday - Friday 9am - 4pm on 020 3447 3042 ( 24hr answering machine) or by email to pals@uclh.nhs.uk
