What I liked
I had excellent service today (a Sunday) when I cut open my foot on a broken lightbulb. I was seen within five minutes of arriving, had the cut assessed, cleaned, bandaged and x-rayed and was given advice on how to care for it without any further waiting. I was in and out within about 20 minutes, and treated efficiently by medical staff with a friendly and courteous manner.
What could be improved
As so often with NHS services, it was the customer service that let my experience down. I encountered two receptionists (one at A&E, the other at primary medical clinic) both of whom did not acknowledge me for several minutes while they were doing paperwork. When they did, they seemed pretty uninterested and generally not particularly pleasant. After taking my details, including the reason I was there (large gash on my foot), the receiptionist in A&E directed me to the primary medical clinic in another building, not bothering to inquire as to whether I could get there unaided. Sloppy, unwelcoming and an unwelcoming manner - thankfully not the attitude shown by the clinicians I saw.
"Efficient and clean, but expect a grumpy..."
