"Respect needed from fellow service users at Guernsey house "

About: Guernsey House / Primary care addiction service Sheffield (PCASS)

(as the patient),

Is it really necessary to use drugs inside the toilets at the clinic because these people are trying to help us.

Smelling it is a trigger for me and I would appreciate it if people didn't do it. The clinic should warn people about the effect this has on others.

Response from Guernsey House

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your comments and observations regarding the possible use of drugs by other service users whilst attending your appointment at Guernsey House.

Staff members at Guernsey House work hard to provide a safe and appropriate environment for people to be supported and treated within. Guernsey House staff are always grateful when users of our service advise us of any concerns they may have particularly as was indicated in your posting, when there is a suspicion that street drug use has taken or is taking place on or around the vicinity of our service.

Guernsey House attempts to address any potential issue of drug use on its premises by making sure that when each person starts treatment with our service they are advised of the inappropriateness of this type of behaviour i.e. that street drug use is not tolerated on or around the vicinity of our premises.

The Guernsey House staff team encourage service users to advise us of how any other service users behaviour is impacting on their ability to receive the treatment that he/she would wish to have, this of course is inclusive of any concerns a service user may have regarding the possible use of drugs in or near our premises.

Again may I take this opportunity to thank you for the expression of your concern regarding this matter and may I again take this opportunity to assure you that we will be doing everything that is reasonable and within our power to make our treatment environment as safe and as comfortable as is possible.

Guernsey House, alongside other NHS treatment services has a zero tolerance policy regarding the use of street drugs on its premises, that is to say we would not accept or condone on any occasion this form of behaviour.
