I am a previous NHS worker from Colchester Hospital and I would like to share my story of how I found this hospital and it's resources.
I will not state what I did or who I worked for as this might be seen as 'bad apples and someone with a grudge'.
I worked for nearly five years for this hospital both directly & indirectly employed by the Trust. Everything was going well until I began employment in a brand new post working for the Trust.
I was employed in a new role to maintain certain types of medical equipment.
After a few months, I began to feel that the mangagement were unprofessional.
I was provided a new workshop which was a good idea but fell short of suitability. It was located within the boiler house and I would have to wheel items of medical equipment past the waste compactor skips through food waste into this workshop for repair.
Initially I was never given running water or any appropriate tools or protective clothing to carry out my work correctly and in an efficient manner.
When I requested this equipment, basic tools and the means of washing the equipment to prevent cross contamination I was either refused or told to 'take them off a ward'.
I complained but it didn't feel like any of this was taken seriously by HR and it continued until a point where I received a work related injury that prevented me from doing the job that I loved so much.
I would go back & do the job again tomorrow given the chance as working for the patients, nurses and doctors was the most rewarding thing I have ever done.
