I have two sons who have both been seen by peadiatricians on an irregular basis since they were born.
We used to see one paediatrician in a community health centre and on at least two occasions the appointment was postponed at the last minute.
We were recently given an appointment to see a paediatrician which was postponed almost immediately and a new appointment given to us. The appointment was to have been this afternoon. After arranging time off with a difficult boss (who is herself a mum), and keeping my son off school, I wasn't too pleased to be rung up at 10.30am postponing the appointment again.
As a normal human being I carry the empathy gene but as we are never given an explanation for why appointments are repeatedly postponed and are never given a choice of time, day or location for the appointments I feel angry and frustrated. Everything seems to be weighted on the side of GPs and consultants and rarely on the patients. Am I the only one who feels the same lack of professionalism in my own profession would see me out of a job pretty quickly?
