"Daughter refused an endoscopy at St. Helens"

My daughter was booked in for an endoscopy at St Helens Hospital, Merseyside. When she arrived she felt totally humiliated by the dr attending.

Having suffered from abdominal pain for several years, since in her teens, and paediatricians putting it down to "psychological causes", my daughter was referred via A & E at Warrington back to the GP. One of the GP's in the practice refused to do anything, naming weight and psychological problems as the cause, although my daughter has not had any psychological problems in past 7 years. Another GP in the practice referred her to gastroenterology dept at St Helens.

Here she was treated in a derogatory and humiliating way, put on a re-inforced chair and refused the endoscopy because of her weight.

She is a mother of two children (and a good and dedicated mother), a student at university. Her pain is real and debilitating and needs treatment.

From this experience it seems if you are overweight it is used as an example not to treat you, Is this to save money?

I think it is downright disgusting and I am fuming and going to take it further right to the Minister for Health if necessary.
