"Once on the EADU. The early involvement..."

What I liked

Once on the EADU. The early involvement of an Endocrinologist, and thorough assessment and treatment. I was also lucky enough to see my regular consultant on the ward. The food was excellent with a good selection of healthy choices as well as the usual treats. The EADU is a difficult ward to sleep or relax in but once transferred to a proper ward this improved. The doctors work very long hours but remain positive and focussed.

What could be improved

The attitude of the A+E receptionists was not very respectful. They seemed to treat me just like someone who was wasting their time. Luckily the actual doctors once I got inside were much more respectful. One thing that would have helped would have been a briefing from the ADSHG for the A+E staff with Addison's Disease and other Steroid Dependant conditions where crisis' occur. Had I have needed an emergency injection the reaction and waiting time would have been too long to avoid serious symptoms and possible coma. As it turns out my crisis was milder than most and the team eventually got me onto a drip. I went in at 4.30pm but wasn't on a drip until 10.30pm.
