What I liked
My eldely confused mother was recently a patient here. Although housed in an old building, the hospital is bright and very clean. Mum shared a two bedded room which again was bright, clean and with a pleasant outlook. The staff were always available and happy to discuss Mum's progress and problems with me. On several occaisons I was able to discuss matters with her GP who was at the hospital. With the help of the OT a home assessment was arranged and Mum was able to return home with a support package in place.
I think that the general peacefulness of the hospital contributed to Mum making a good recovery. When we left the hospital a member of staff helped to load the car with Mum's belongings, sucha contrast to Derriford where absolutely no help was given when Mum was discharged 4 years ago in haste because of a Bank Holiday.
Anything else?
I think our experience demonstates the important role of small local hospitals.
