"Shocked and concerned"

About: Diana, Princess Of Wales Hospital

I was instructed by the 111 service to go to a&e immediately following their assessment amd it was over three hours later during my first in hospital assessment that my issue came about.

During the hospital assessment the nurse requested information regarding any other health issues I suffered from or was undergoing treatment for.

Although unrelated to the reason for my visit, this included severe anxiety and depression which does impact my ability to function when dealing with strangers and the public.

The nurse's response was to snort and say doesn't everyone these days.

I was really shocked and taken aback.

Knowing how hard it can be for someone with a mental illness to admit it, much less ask for help, If someone is at a&e (or in fact anywhere) for help then they should have the opportunity to deal with someone who has a better understanding of humanity and professionalism than I was presented with.

It was also a horribly inaccurate representation of the nurses and other medical professionals that do care about and respect the people they work so hard to help.
