"I received excellent care and advice"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

Referred to the O. T. by my rheumatologist. First time receiving one to one advice re how to manage pain and condition since diagnosis 18 years ago.

I received replacement splints, (made some 17 years ago) gloves and many other gadgets and information that I am slowly applying to my every day life. I received excellent care and advice from Fiona on how to improve my quality of life, living with a chronic condition.

Over a few appointments Fiona made me take control of what I can and need do to help live with my condition and encouraged me to open up, ask for help, pace myself and set base line limits and strategies with the hope of reducing the need for pain killers and steroid injections, thus improving my quality of life.

Very appreciative of the help given and feel strongly that O. T. support should be given to all rheumatology patients as early on in diagnosis as possible. The disease is often treated medically, in short consultant appointments and the person can be lost along the way.

Thanks Fiona for all of your help!

Dear k3let,

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide feedback about the treatment you received from your occupational therapist. Fiona will be delighted that you had an extremely positive experience, and that you have found the service very helpful in assisting you to cope with the management of your pain. It is important to occupational therapists that people are supported to gain maximum independence, and Fiona will be delighted that your are finding the new techniques and strategies beneficial in helping you to manage everyday activities.

I am delighted to hear that you would strongly recommend the service to other people and that you feel that occupational therapy should be available at the earliest opportunity. Within Lanarkshire Rheumatology services, we believe that people benefit most from the combined impact of a multi-disciplinary team, and we have been working hard to ensure early intervention and support post diagnosis.

I will ensure that Fiona receives your feedback as it will be used to help shape services for the future,

Wishing you continued success

Kindest regards

Janice
