A close relative was rushed in having fallen and hit his head. He also has cancer. No neuro obs completed. Blood sugars not tested despite advising that he is diabetic.
Every time the nurse entered the room they left the door wide open meaning that other people could look directly into the room (In my view, what happened to dignity and respect).
When the patient needed the toilet I informed somebody behind the desk who said "look for someone in blue. I don't deal with that" (they all wear blue). I had to wait for the same nurse to be visible as nobody in blue (apart from the person I asked) was around.
The nurse then said "can't he walk to the toilet? " Based on the fact that he was disorientated and came in due to being dizzy and falling needing reviving would indicate that he was a huge falls risk and couldn't go to the toilet himself.
In my opinion, It was despicable! When vomiting, the nurse left the room and failed to return. I donned an apron and gloves, cleaned him up and disposed of in the correct hazardous waste bin. I also had to move his trolley as no brakes had been applied and when the nurse was administering antibiotics, the bed moved and he failed to move it back which meant that the oxygen being administered couldn't go through the tube. I had to push the trolley up so the oxygen could get through and apply the brakes.
On another note, when on AMU, my relative stated that the staff were "lovely and helpful"
"A close relative was rushed in having fallen and hit his head."
