Response from Birmingham Dental Hospital

Thank you for taking time to give your feedback and I am pleased that you have found the staff to be friendly and patient in the past. I am sorry that your child could not be seen at the hospital, and that you found the dentist's attitude to be harsh, however patients can only be seen with a letter of referral, or through the walk-in service. The walk-in service is a small same-day service for patients who require urgent dental care. The service uses a ticket system, with people being called in the order in which they arrive, and with a limited number of tickets available each day.

I assume from your comment that your son did not attend the walk-in service, which may have been able to offer him a service had he arrived in time to obtain a ticket. Your comments with regards the attitude of the dentist have been passed to the Associate Director and the Lead Clinician, and staff will be asked to reflect on communication with patients whilst working in a busy clinic, however it would be extremely useful to know whether you attended the hospital during the daytime, evening or at the weekend. Please contact Alison Last, Head of Patient Experience on 0121 442 3311 or email alison.last@sbpct.nhs.uk to advise.
